Berger thanks Hrubesch for believing in her: “I hope I made him proud today.”

Ann-Katrin Berger After a Friday afternoon ” emotional rollercoaster” in the 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament bronze-medal match, DFB squad captain Alexandra Popp, goal-scorer Giulia Gwinn and departing Bundestrainer of Germany’s Frauen-Nationalmannschaft Horst Hrubesch found plenty of ways of expressing their joy at winning a medal.  The most touching quote nevertheless belonged to newly installed DFB-Mädels #1 keeper Ann-Katrin Berger. The 33-year-old made certain to thank her team and her coach for believing in her ahead of this tournament. Berger interjected new life into the team as they bounced back from last summer’s disappointing WWC campaign.
